Blog

Most folks don't know much about bail bonds until their friends or loved ones get arrested. That said, it's normal for people to have so many questions concerning bail bonds whenever they need to secure the release of their loved ones. Luckily, compiled are some frequently asked questions about bail bonds.

What Should You Know Before Contacting the Bondsman?

Well, a bondsman requires you to have certain information about the person in custody before contacting them. This information includes:

  • Where is the defendant locked up? (Know the name of the jail and which state and city it's located)
  • How much is the bail? The bondsman will need to know the bail amount to understand how much is required to get the defendant out of jail.
  • Get the full name, and booking number of the defendant, as the bondsman will use this information to contact the jail.

If you don't know the bail amount and booking number, the bail bondsman can get it for you.

Do You Get Your Money Back Once the Case Is Over?

As you well know, clients have to pay a 10% service fee before the bondsman posts bail. This is a commitment fee, and it's non-refundable. The bondsman will only earn the premium once the defendant is out of custody. The only time you are entitled to a refund is when the defendant isn't released.

Can a Bail Bonds Agency Arrest You?

Once you sign a contract with a bail bonds agency, you relinquish your rights. Remember, they are paying the bond to have you released from jail, and the only way they'll get their money back is if you appear in court.

That said, they can arrest a defendant if they miss a court date. The bondsman is legally allowed to bring the fugitive to a court or the police station. They'll pursue the fugitive into any dwelling they are hiding and apprehend them.

Do Bail Bonds Agencies Provide Services Over the Weekend?

Yes. Bail bonds companies are open 24/7. As you well know, arrests happen every time, especially during the weekends. It doesn't matter whether you have been arrested at night, you can get the service of a bondsman any time. Amazingly, the fact that bondsmen are available 24/7 means you can get your loved ones out of jail quickly.

If you don't have a serious charge, it's easy for the bail bondsman to post bail on the weekend and get you out of jail without having to wait for a judge to set bail.
